Nekonyancer*[blue]Welcome to Con Sonar![/blue]*
Beneath the ocean's surface, submarines from six nations are preparing to launch nuclear missiles! Your mission is to take down as many enemy subs as possible while protecting your own!
[green][tip] This tutorial is best viewed on a computer![/green]1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
Nekonyancer[blue]In this game, players will play sequences of *fleet cards* to take aim at certain subs and *torpedo cards* to blow them up.[/blue]
Victory points are earned for destroying subs and for keeping your own subs alive. When there are only two subs left alive, whoever has the most victory points is the winner!2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
NekonyancerThere are twelve submarines in the ocean, with *two* subs belonging to each player. In this game, [blue]we control the blue subs[/blue], [green]our opponent controls the green subs[/green], and the other colors are neutral.3mat000mat 7
NekonyancerThe board shows the *"firing solution"* for each sub. At the beginning of the game, six subs have a solution of 2, and six have a solution of 4.
*!!! The higher the number, the more easily they can be targeted and destroyed! !!!*4mat000mat 7
Nekonyancer[blue]The cards in your hand are called "fleet cards."[/blue] Each one has two symbols, a color, and a number.5card_28000card_21 7 card_28 7 card_27 7
NekonyancerThis card is purple and has a +4.
Therefore, it can increase the firing solution of any purple sub by 4, making it easier to destroy.6card_27000card_27 7
NekonyancerYou must play at least one fleet card on your turn. After that, you can play additional cards if you can form a [green]sequence of symbols.[/green]
!!! *The first symbol on each additional card must match the second symbol of the previous card!*7card_27000
NekonyancerFor example, we can start our turn by playing this purple card. We can ignore the first symbol on it because it's our first card.
The second symbol on this card determines what we can play next. It matches the first symbol on the [red]red card[/red], so we can play that card next!8card_27000
NekonyancerLet's try it!
1. *Click on this purple card to play it.*
2. *Click on the purple sub to raise its firing solution.*
3. *Click on the red card.*
4. *Click on the red sub.*
5. *Click on End Turn at the top!*9card_27010sub_6 18 sub_8 20 card_27 17 card_28 19
Nekonyancer*Great job!* At the end of our turn, we drew back up to three cards.1card_226241ec67214ec00
NekonyancerNext, let's learn about these [blue]*torpedo cards.*[/blue] Unlike fleet cards, torpedo cards are public, so everyone can see and use them.
Notice that each torpedo card has 1 ship symbol. After a player plays their fleet cards for the turn, they can play one torpedo card *if they can sequence into it!*1card_436241ec8a41b7200card_52 7 card_43 7 card_47 7
NekonyancerWhen a torpedo card is played, that player chooses a submarine of the same color as the torpedo card and then rolls a die with 8 sides once for each torpedo shown on the card.2card_526241ec8a41b7200
NekonyancerFor example, with [blue]this torpedo card[/blue], a player could target a *yellow sub* and roll the eight-sided die *two times*.3card_526241ec8a41b7200card_52 7
NekonyancerIf the player rolls *under* the chosen sub's firing solution at least once, it is destroyed!
For example, if a player fired [red]at this sub[/red] with [blue]this torpedo card[/blue], the player would have to roll *under 6*, and would have two chances to do it!4sub_106241ec8a41b7200sub_10 6 card_52 7
NekonyancerRight now, our cards are lining up perfectly. We can play all *three* of our fleet cards and then sequence into a *torpedo* card. Do you see the sequence?
Press continue when you see it!5card_226241ec8a41b7200
NekonyancerThe sequence is purple card, red card, blue card, and then yellow torpedo!
Go ahead and click on:
*Hand 1, Hand 2, Hand 3, Hand 4, blue highlight, red, highlight, green highlight, RED X.*6avatar_119413546241ec8a41b7210sub_0 1 sub_7 18 sub_9 20 sub_10 13 card_52 3 card_21 17 card_0 2 card_22 19
NekonyancerAwesome! Now check out the *game log.*
[img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/https___snipboard.io_73Jkeq.jpg[/img]
It shows that we rolled a 1 and a 2. Each die needs to be less than 6 to hit, so both torpedoes were successful, and the sub was destroyed!1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6241ecc61217400
NekonyancerThe destroyed sub went into our inventory. We'll count them up at the end of the game for points!2player_board_921434876241ecc61217400player_name_92143487 6
NekonyancerBy the way, if our torpedoes had missed, then the *torpedo card* would have gone into our inventory instead!
!!! Torpedo cards in your inventory give you minus points at the end of the game! :(
Now, let's skip ahead a few turns...3player_board_921434876241ecc61217400
NekonyancerOkay. Look at our fleet cards. It looks like they won't be able to sequence into any torpedo cards... *except for the blue torpedo!* But we don't want to sink our own subs!
That's okay. We have another option: *we can discard the torpedo card* so no one else uses it! We still have to sequence into it though.1card_356241ed43bfaf100card_37 6
NekonyancerLet's do it!
*Click on hands 1, 2, and 3. Then click "Trash Torpedo" at the top!*2card_326241ed43bfaf110sub_4 18 card_37 19 card_32 17
NekonyancerNice job! The blue torpedo card was discarded, so our blue subs will be safe for now.
Play will continue the way you've seen. Players play fleet cards and sequence into torpedo cards to take shots at subs.
*When there are only 2 subs left on the board, the game ends and we count up points!*1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6241ed5d4ddcc00
NekonyancerHere's how scoring works:
*1 point* for each sub in your inventory
*2 points* for each sub of your color still alive
*1 point* for each same-color pair of subs in your inventory.
*2 points* if you have at least four differently colored subs in your inventory.
*Minus 1 point* for each torpedo card in your inventory.2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6241ed5d4ddcc00
NekonyancerFor example, if we killed *2 greens, 1 orange, 1 purple, and 1 red, but we had one torpedo card and all our subs were dead*, we'd get:
+5 for destroyed subs
+1 for 2 green subs
+2 for four different colors
-1 from a miss
for a total of 7 points!3archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6241ed5d4ddcc00
Nekonyancer*[blue]Thanks for playing through this tutorial!*[/blue]
